Where children come first

Year 5

HOME LEARNING OVERVIEW

Hi Year 5,

Overviews of home learning can be found on our website but work will also be set on Hwb or SeeSaw. Tasks will be live from 9 a.m. There will be a message from staff everyday for you to see too.

Hopefully you all remember how to use TEAMs through your Hwb accounts, www.hwb.gov.uk. Work can be sent through here or the Seesaw app. You will need to download the SeeSaw app rather than the SeeSaw for parents app or login on a computer and use your QR code. If you require help then just contact the school or email the class teacher or queryresponse@penybrynprm.cardiff. sch.uk.

There will be 3x Math and 3x Literacy work set over the week. A whole school project has been created so that if children have siblings they can follow the same topic. You can pick the activities you wish to complete and complete as many as you like. You will be sent this through seesaw but also by viewing the project tasks from the class page section or our topic section.  Please share any work you do with us on SeeSaw or TEAMs.

Try Reading for ten minutes every day using https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0;

If you need any help please get in touch via the various channels.

Stay safe,

Miss. Penn and Miss. Morris

Friday - World Book Day

Welcome to Year 5!

We are looking forward to sharing this year with you and learning about some amazing things.

PE will be on Thursdays so wear your PE kit into school. It will be outdoors as much as possible so please remember to wear something warm when the weather turns cooler.

Bring your reading book into school everyday - you never know when we might find a spare 5 minutes to read!

Try and read at home as often as your can, you can read to adults, younger siblings or just on your own. You can change your reading book as often as you'd like - when the books come back into school they will go into 'book quarantine' to ensure they are safe before going back onto the book shelf.

Your new spellings will come home every Friday but if you're away or put them 'somewhere safe' they are also at the bottom of this page. You will have a spelling test each Friday on the words from the week before. Don't forget, you can use Spelling Shed to practice your spellings too.

Useful Websites;

If you are looking for anything extra to do then BBC Bitesize have lots of interesting activities too.

Here is the link for the Year 5 page

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/zhgppg8/year-5-lessons/1

If you are looking for more books to read, the Oxford Owl website (https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/) has a FREE library of online, ebooks sorted by age or book band colour so you can find something that suits you. It is free and easy to register, just ask an adult to help you.

If you are keen to practice your times tables or other maths skills, https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button is a favourite of ours.

Spellings

Don't forget to practise your spellings every week, you will have a spelling test every Friday.

Find the meanings of the words, put them into sentences.

You could practise them in a fun way - rainbow writing, write with your 'wrong hand', pyramid writing, chalk them on the pavement, make a word search with them or bubble writing. What other fun ways could you practise them?
