Along with myself, we have Mrs.Davies in the classroom who will provide great support for the children.
We are thrilled to be in Year 6 and looking forward to finishing your child's primary school learning journey with them!
We have some exciting projects over the next year which include:
1. Past, Present and Future
2. Lights, Camera, Action!
3. Technotastic
4. Disaster Zone
5. I've Got The Power
6. Time To Say Goodbye
You will be sent a learning overview each half term so that you can see the topics, lessons and skills that we will be covering in more detail!
Children should be wearing their PE kits into school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the whole of Autumn term. Please check the uniform policy if you are unsure.
Please continue to read with your child every night (10-15 minutes), fill in their reading record books and bring them back and forth to school every day. Reading is a vital part of your child's education and so important for other aspects such as writing, spelling and oracy.
I will correspond with parents through SeeSaw, so if you have any queries or questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch via the school or SeeSaw.
Thanks again and I look forward to teaching Year 6 over the next year!

During the topic ‘Past, Present & Future,’ Year 6 covered many different periods of time! From Prehistoric, Ancient, Dark ages, Medieval, Early Modern, Industrial, late modern and contemporary! The children built up a knowledge of History and important events and the changes in History through time. Year 6 learnt about certain inventions and hierarchies and where they originated from. They learnt about certain political and social aspects and how these contribute to the impact on people’s lives and countries. The children learnt about the Greeks and the Romans and ordered events in chronological order creating a timeline. They looked at different styles of housing through the ages in preparation for their DT activity; to design a city of the future. Within their dance sessions, week by week, the children created their own movements from each period in history to contribute to a final performance. During the renaissance children learnt about the Feudal system and created pieces of art taking inspiration from the fall of the Roman empire. The children showed great enthusiasm learning about King Henry the VIII and holding debates on whether he was a good or a bad king. A lot of mixed opinions made for a fascinating debate! For their fantastic finish, the children had researched, designed using TinkerCad 3D design website and finally built their buildings for the city of the future. The children were able to independently use hack saws and glue guns to construct their designs and were joined by their parents for ‘Family Friday’ to add to their final piece. We had a visit from The National Grid to discuss electricity and safety and all the children took part in life saving training with St John’s Ambulance! Year 6 also attended a trip to Techniquest! | |

We started our new topic by learning about the history of film and cinema! The children watched old clips of Charlie Chaplin and delved into silent movies! The children learnt about different camera angles, animations and the thaumatrope!
Year 6 learnt about electrical circuits and when the circuits are compromised. We looked at light in relation to shadows and reflection and refraction.
We had an exciting visit from ‘IntoFilm’ discussing the job opportunities through film! Year 6 were also lucky to attend a trip to the Sherman Theatre to watch ‘A Christmas Carol.’ Throughout the topic, Year 6 had a ‘pen pal’ scheme with an actor from the performance and we learnt about the process of rehearsals, staging and learning songs and puppetry! It gave the children a brilliant insight into ‘behind the scenes’ of preparing to act in a play!
The children created story boards for their own Christmas advert and over the weeks, designed charcters and a setting. The children finished the topic by creating their characters out of plasticine and used Imovie to create their advert on the Ipads.
