Croeso i flwyddyn 2!

Our teacher is Mrs Irwin and our teaching assistants are Mrs Glover and Miss Rees.

Our Topic this term is "Mission X", please see the link below for more information about what we will be covering.

PE is on a Thursday and Friday, please can children wear the school uniform PE Kit. 

Water bottles need to be brought in everyday and children can bring in a healthy snack for break time.

We ask that book bags are brought in everyday so we can read with the children in class. They will be changed on a Tuesday. Please try to read with your child for at least 5 minutes everyday.

Our first topic this year was Toys R Us, the children brought in their own toys from home and discussed why they were important to them. We then went on to explore different toys. They investigated and learnt about electrical circuits and magnets as well as exploring toys with wheels, toys that push and pull and building up to making their own toy vehicle! The children loved experimenting with wheels and axles and using saws to cut their wood! During the topic we were lucky to have one of the parents come in and show how she makes little teddies accessories such as clothes, tents and even pizza with pizza boxes! This was fascinating and the children were very keen to experiment with making their own after this! At our Family Friday, the children then shared their creations with their families and showed off their new skills of making circuits, wheels and axles and making a push and pull toy. 

During our topic ‘Super Senses’ we looked at how sound travels and experimented with what affects how we hear the whistle at playtime. We also explored how food and drinks can impact our teeth by placing eggs in different liquids. We loved exploring the results of this! We learnt about Braille and sign language and even learnt ‘Away in a manger’ in sign language for our Christmas concert! During this topic we have also been doing a lot of music playing the recorders and glockenspiels. There were some beautiful sounds coming from Year 2 in the afternoons! We enjoyed exploring light during this topic as well and had great fun making shadow puppets. As you can see from the picture we made some fantastic shadows and were able to tell great stories with them! We finished our topic by making sensory bottles and boards aimed at toddlers. We also had a magical time for our trip to Cefn Mably for our Christmas trip!
