Welcome to Year 1!

Croeso i Blwyddun 1!

Welcome to Year 1, your teachers are Mrs Davies (Mon-Wed am) and Miss Penn (Wed-Fri) and the teaching assistants are Miss Dickens and Mrs Ahmed. 

• Please bring a healthy snack and water bottle to have each day.
• Please label your children's clothes.
• P.E is every Monday and Wednesday, please can children come to school in their PE Kit (white top, black shorts & suitable footwear)
• Please bring book bags into school everyday if possible. Books will be changed on every single week. Please read with your child for 5 minutes every day if possible.

Our topic this term is The Adventures of the Gingerbread Man.

Our Year So far...

Autumn 1

We started the year with our topic ‘Me in my community.’ Throughout the topic we developed our knowledge of different parts of our community. We looked at our school, different religions and also how we can look after our communities ourselves. We enjoyed going on a walk around our local community looking at a variety of special places. We learnt about a variety of different special buildings for each religion and what rules they follow. For our ICT sessions we learnt about algorithms and programmed the BeeBot mouse to travel around its community. In our PE sessions, we loved learning how to ride a bike – some of us were a bit wobbly but we all had fun. 

Autumn 2

Our next topic was ‘Time to party’. Throughout this topic we learnt about different celebrations and religious festivals. We loved learning about different religious festivals and how similar and different they are. We especially loved learning about Diwali and Hindu Gods. We also looked at Thanksgiving, Ramadan, Judaism and of course Christmas. We made Diwa lamps and Rangoli patterns as well as an acts of kindness advent calendar for Ramadan. We also been learnt the story of Cinderella and wrote our own stories. For our DT project we designed and made our own hand puppets – the sewing was great fun. We loved our Christmas trip to Cefn Mably – the soft play was so much fun and we loved holding some of the smaller animals.
