Pen-Y-Bryn Primary School

Where children come first

Year 5

Summer Term

To start our Summer Term we will be looking at The UEFA Champions League.

We will be practicing a number of skills we developed during the Spring term, such as debating and using area and perimeter.

In the first few weeks of May we will be taking part in the National Tests so it is important you are in school everyday to ensure you are as prepared as possible.

We will continue to have PE/games on Tuesdays and Fridays so please make sure you have your PE kit in school on these days, labelled and in a drawstring bag - when the weather allows we will have these sessions outside so appropriate footwear is essential.

Ensure you continue to read everyday and bring book bags in on a Thursday for swapping.

For the second half of our Summer term we will be look at Habitats, Holes and Homes

We will be looking at a variety of insect based topics - including looking after some caterpillars of our own which we hope will soon be butterflies!

We have a trip planned for June 29th to The Wetlands in Newport, please ensure you have returned your permission slip and money in plenty of time.

We will continue to have PE and games on Tuesday's and Friday's - whenever possible this will be outside so please make sure you have suitable footwear.

Hopefully the sun will show it's face this term so please be sure to have a re-fillable water bottle and hat in school.

Spring Term

During the Spring term our topic is 'African Adventure'

We will be looking at the varying landscapes of Africa and comparing life there to our lives in Cardiff.

For your homework this term you will be given an African country to research and present your findings back to the class!

Welcome to Year 5!

Our teacher is Miss Penn.

We have PE on a Tuesday and Friday, please make sure all PE kit is labelled and in a draw string bag.

The children can bring in a healthy fruit snack and bottle of water please also label this with their name to save confusion.

During the Autumn Term our class will be completing a number of sessions covering an aspect of Substance Misuse as part of our Healthy Schools Topics.

Please bring book bags in on a Thursday.
